LaVonne Torrence Berner is founder and principal attorney at Torrence Law Office, LLC.
LaVonne’s career in commercial real estate began in 1998 and includes closing hundreds of leasing transactions while representing national and regional landlords, retailers and the government of the District of Columbia in a wide range of complex shopping center, mixed use, new development, street retail, and office transactions.
LaVonne has substantial experience representing landlords in the negotiation of leases with national tenants such as Sunglass Hut, Rosa Mexicano, Lululemon Athletica, and Freshii. She also has substantial experience representing franchisees of national brands in negotiation of leases with regional and national landlords such as Weingarten Realty, Regency Centers, Lerner Corporation, and Atapco Properties.
Prior to founding Torrence Law Office, LLC, LaVonne was on the team of lease negotiators for an international retail development and management company and an attorney at a mid-size commercial real estate law firm. LaVonne has also litigated unlawful employment practices cases in state and federal court.
LaVonne earned her Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where she served as a student attorney in the Advocacy for the Elderly Law Clinic. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the College of Behavioral and Social Science at the University of Maryland at College Park, where she was recognized for academic honors and named to the Dean’s List.
LaVonne is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She is also a licensed real estate broker and President of FivePoints Real Estate Solutions, LLC, a real estate consulting and management firm.
LaVonne is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Maryland State Bar Association. She is also on the Community Development Advisory Committee for Montgomery County, Maryland and a former board member of the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce.
